Walkie Talkie Man!

Well, it’s finally happened. Within a day of turning 16 months, Monk finally decided that walking is going to be his primary mode of locomotion after all! He won’t be crawling down the halls in college. Yes, Monk is really walking, about a month and a half after taking his official first steps, and he’s doing it well! He hardly stumbles at all, and he’s able to walk while carrying objects. Life has already changed. He is no longer willing to hold our hands when he walks, so outings have become a lot more complicated. He is prone to running off in the direction of anything that captures his interest, and gets pretty stroppy if we try to interfere with his plans. He just looks so damn cute, walking along. He has an interesting style. He usually thrusts out an arm and ploughs along with very purposeful look on his little face.

Okay, so the heading for this entry might be a bit misleading. Monk isn’t actually talking yet, but he is doing such expressive jargoning that it pretty much sounds like he is. And yesterday we were watching an ad for dog bones and he pointed right at the TV and said “dog” very clearly. They say that talking follows hot on the heels of walking, so we’ll see what happens next. He is just such a gorgeous, delightful little person!
