Fall Scenes

One of the consolations of New England is that, before the weather takes a several-month dip into excruciating temperatures, there is a short patch of absolutely gorgeous fall weather that gives rise to family outings like apple-picking and visits to the pumpkin patch. This was our apple-picking trip this year. Because we didn't have long and couldn't travel far, we went to Lookout Farm in Natick. Lookout Farm has turned apple-picking into a wallet-bleeding exercise second only to a trip to Whole Foods. The admission fee is huge, and they are very controlling. You're not allowed to walk freely in the orchards, but have to ride their "trains" to designated spots. I think we came away with about 5 apples and 2 Asian pears, at a cost of approx. $10.00 per piece of fruit. Fortunately, this trip was a few days before Rob lost his job, so we could still afford it. Also, Immy ate her entire body weight in apples and pears before we even made it to the cash register. We went with Olivia from Max's class (and her parents, Sam and Chris, and baby sister Alessandra). The reason there are more photos of Immy is that I was in charge of her, while Rob was herding Max.
